About the Department
The Gouldsboro Police Department started as a volunteer community watch in the 1970s and has evolved into a part-time service police department with two full-time and one part-time patrol officers. All full-time officers meet the same training requirements as other municipal and county police departments in the State of Maine.

Meet our K9 Officers!

K9 Kia and K9 Aspen are loyal partners and trained professionals, working alongside Chief Malloy to protect our community. From finding missing people to detecting dangerous drugs, they help keep everyone safe. They’re also friendly faces at schools and local events, connecting us with the residents we serve.
K9 Kia has proudly served the Gouldsboro community for the past three years. K9 Aspen is our newest addition and is currently in her first year of service. Following in her sister Kia’s footsteps, Aspen is already proving to be a quick learner and a wonderful addition to the team!
Frequently Asked Questions
Animal bites
Contact dispatch at (207) 667-8866 to report an incident. If the bite broke the skin, an officer will follow up. Try to identify the biting animal and its owner. Seek immediate medical treatment to avoid infection. Depending on the circumstances, you may need Rabies Post-Exposure Prophylaxis.
Dog leash requirements
Maine state law does not require dogs to be on a leash at all times. However, state law prohibits a dog from being “at large” — on another person’s property without permission and not under the owner’s control. Owners can be summonsed to court for allowing a dog to roam at large.
Dog licensing
Gouldsboro residents with a dog 6 months or older must license the dog annually with the Town. Bring documentation of a current rabies vaccination to the Town Office at time of registration. The fee is $11 ($6 for spayed or neutered dogs). Failure to license by January 31 results in a $25 late fee.
Identity theft
If you have been a victim of identity theft or computer crime, contact Hancock County Dispatch at (207) 667-8866 to report an incident.
Donations
The Gouldsboro Police Department accepts non-solicited charitable donations. Funds are used only for specific approved purposes. Contact the Town Office at (207) 963-5589.
