Office Hours:  Tuesday & Wednesday 8AM – 4PM

Fees: Copies of property cards and evaluation sheets are available for a fee of $1.00 per property.
Deeds are available for viewing during the hours the Assessor’s Office is open and copies can be obtained at the cost of $1.00 per deed page.

The Hancock County Registry of Deeds is available online and deeds can be viewed from your home. There is no charge for this service and you can access it at:  http://www.hancockcountydeeds.com

Click here to be taken to the online website. This will walk you through the steps and will be applied to your tax account. Please keep in mind there is a 2.5% charge fee for debit / credit cards. This is the same fee that is charged when payments are made in person with cards as well. If you have any delinquent taxes, the payment will be applied to the oldest first.

Blind Exemption
Resident property owners who have been declared legally blind by their physician and have documentation are entitled to an exemption up to $4,000. You must submit documentation to the Assessor’s Office on or before April 1st. (Title 36, M.R.S.A. Section 654)

Homestead Exemption
Homeowners whose permanent place of  residence is in Maine are entitled to a reduction in valuation. In order to qualify, you must minimally be a resident of Maine for at least 12 months prior to April 1st of the year you are filing the application. If the homeowners qualify, you must fill out a form declaring property as their permanent place of residence. Once the application is filed, the exemption remains until the owner sells or changes their place of legal residence. Sign the form and deliver it by mail or in person to our Town Office.

Veterans Exemption
Veterans who have reached the age of 62 and who have served in a federally organized war period, as well as 100% disabled veterans, qualify for an exemption of $6,000. The widow, minor child, or widowed mother of a veteran may qualify for this exemption as well. Proof of service and honorable discharge, a copy of the DD214, and Birth Certificate are required. Paraplegic Veterans also qualify for a veterans exemption up to $50,000 of just valuation.

Deadline for filing applications is April 1st of the current tax year. All forms are available below or you may pick them up at the Town Office.

☘️ A Special Town Meeting will be held at 5PM on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at the Gouldsboro Town Office before the regular Select Board meeting. ☘️ Effective Monday, March 2, 2026 the Town Office will be changing the hours of operation we are open to the public. We will now be closing from 12:15 – 1PM Mondays through Thursday for lunch. In addition, we will be closing at 5PM on Thursdays. Friday operations are unchanged. The new schedule is as follows:

☘️ We are pleased to let residents know that the Town of Winter Harbor’s gym, located at 10 School Street, is open as a safe indoor walking space during the winter months. Monday – Friday 9-10AM and 2-4PM. This opportunity is free and open to anyone who would like to walk in a safe space to stay active this winter! We extend our sincere thanks to the Town of Winter Harbor for allowing Gouldsboro residents to utilize this option.

☘️ Attention Shellfish Harvesters: Stave Island Bar will be opened from October 20, 2025 and will close June 30, 2026.

☘️ Please be aware, ALL Mooring fees were due by the end of August without penalty. As of September 1, a late fee of $25 has been applied to all outstanding mooring fees.

🗑️ Effective October 1: Cardboard will be treated as regular trash. It can be mixed in with other household trash. No clear plastic bag is needed, but a sticker will be required.

🗑️ The Solid Waste Committee has spoken with the City of Ellsworth, and the city is willing to take recyclables at their transfer station from Gouldsboro residents as long as they are clean and sorted. Please check in with the attendant at their transfer station if you are dropping off to ensure they are the right items and CLEAN. Please click here to see acceptable items at the City of Ellsworth’s website. Please be respectful of their personnel and property while making use of this service. We thank the City of Ellsworth for their willingness to make their facility available to us.
